NAME: Amy Hardin
Membership Type: CrossFit & X4
When and why did you join Junction Fitness?
I joined in Sept. 2013 when it was CrossFit DSP. Back then I had heard of CrossFit and had many friends that were doing it and wanted to give it a try. When the name changed I knew that I wanted to remain a member because of the coaches and the other members I had gotten to know.
What is your favorite thing about Junction Fitness?
My favorite thing about Junction Fitness is that it offers CrossFit and X4 workouts simultaneously. I can choose what workout I want to do that particular day and know that I will always get a good workout in.
What does fitness mean to you?
Fitness and working out has always been a part of my life. Being a former D1 athlete I knew that when I “retired” from my sport that I wanted to continue to stay in shape and stay active. Staying fit has enabled me to continue to do the things I love like swimming and snow skiing.
Why did you decide to get healthy?
Fortunately when I was younger I did not have to worry about my weight and what I ate. I was working out so much and always on the go, that I remained very fit and healthy. As I have gotten older I realized that this is not the case anymore and I do have to work towards staying healthy. Junction Fitness allows me to continue on my fitness journey and have fun while doing it.
How has your workout and health routine evolved over the years?
Working has always been a part of my life but I was not as motivated to go and do the work. Junction Fitness has motivated me to strive to get 4-5 workouts a week and even come on Saturdays!
After doing CrossFit for so long, how has adding X4 to your routine helped you progress?
X4 has definitely helped me with endurance and stamina. The assault bike will always be my nemesis but adding X4 has given me the opportunity to get better at it and see the results.
You were around from the beginning when our gym was previously called CrossFit DSP. You have seen the gym change and progress into what is now Junction Fitness. What has kept you coming around for so long and how has the progression of the gym helped you in your personal journey?
The community of great people and coaches has kept me coming around for sure. My 8:30am people are like family and when I am not able to make a workout I feel guilty! They and the coaches are great motivators. The progression of the gym has helped me in my journey by offering options. I love having a choice as to what kind of workout I can do. There’s never a chance to get bored because the workouts are always changing.
Who would you encourage to try Junction Fitness?
I would encourage absolutely anyone to come and give it a try! It’s for people of all ages and fitness backgrounds and levels.
Why do you think it is important to share your story with others in the Junction Fitness community?
I think it’s important for people to see that even as a “senior” athlete yo can do things you never thought possible. When I tell people outside of the gym that I do CrossFit and x4 they look at me like I’m crazy! Sharing my story with others hopefully inspires them to continue to put in the work and make coming to the gym a routine.
What makes Junction Fitness different from the other gyms in the area that you enjoy?
It’s the people and the environment for me that is different. Always very welcoming and the coaches are very knowledgeable about the movements in the workouts and work with you even when you need modifications due to possible injuries. Coaches are pushing me to be the best I can be.
What are your goals for 2022?
I just want to continue to keep CrossFit and X4 part of my daily routine. It’s a great kickstart to my day and sets the tone for the whole day!
