Member Spotlight: Daniel Castilleja

Fitness is more than just changing your physical appearance. Of course, that is one of the main reasons that individuals start exercising. But what about all of the other positive changes that come from becoming healthy? Mental clarity, lower stress, better sleep & more confidence are all changes that can happen when you decide to start your fitness journey. These are all changes that this month's Member Spotlight, Daniel Castilleja, started to notice when he started his health journey. Although Daniel is no stranger to physical activity, he hadn't taken part in any exercise routine since high school. One day he had enough, and decided that it was time for him to change his life for the better. After talking with the Junction Fitness staff, he started coming to CrossFit two days a week, just to get started and see how his body would respond. Two days turned to three days, then four, then FIVE! He quickly started to enjoy the gym and was even the originator of hitting two-a-days 4:30pm CrossFit then jumping into 5:45pm X4! Daniel is the epitome of hard work pays off, and we are so proud of all of his accomplishments thus far! If you see Daniel in the gym, give a fist bump for being this month's Member Spotlight! When and why did you join Junction Fitness? 

I've been a Member of Junction Fitness since January of 2021. I joined because I was ready for a positive change in my life. It was hands down one of the best decisions I could have made at that particular time.

What is your favorite thing about Junction Fitness? 

It is extremely hard to pick a single thing. So, If i had to pick it would be the staff. When I joined I had no clue on how to do any of the lifts or movements but, with the guidance of the coaches I have gradually gotten better. 

Have you ever had any experience with fitness? What made you want to get healthy?

I have been an avid disc golfer for about 8 years now. Though not having to be “physically fit” was fine, it did take a type of fitness and coordination to compete. I want to get healthy and more importantly stay healthy so I can live to experience all the joys life has to offer.  

What does being healthy and active mean to you? 

Simple, it means everything to me. From the beginning of my day to the end, if I did not have my health or ability to be active I would not be able to do the things I consider normal day to day tasks. And do them at a high level. 

Why is it important for you to stay healthy? 

Health is a very important key to success. Since I have incorporated health I've noticed great improvements in other areas of my life including my mental health.

What do you like about X4 at Junction Fitness?

X4 is my “jam”! I absolutely love the X4 program at Junction Fitness. From not knowing what you are in for, to the music, to the high energy very colorful coaches. Each with their own personality and motivation techniques. It really is a treat and hands down the best hour of my day.  

What motivates you to keep coming back to Junction Fitness?

The gym is the motivation. When I come there and work out it is hard for me to leave. It's such a fantastic establishment. Sometimes I find myself sticking around for 30-45 mins post workout chatting with the other gym goers or discussing workouts/nutrition with the coaches. 

Why have you entrusted Junction Fitness and it’s coaches to help you on your fitness journey?

When you can visibly see positive changes in yourself and fellow members, that is the sign that the staff is truly knowledgeable about what they are instructing us to do. I see a lot of people getting stronger and better as we progress together.

What goals have you achieved since becoming a part of the community at Junction Fitness?

My goal was simple. I wanted to be more physically fit. I was seeking to get more flexible along with stamina. Since then, I have set other goals as well. For instance, getting better at certain movements, finishing workouts in faster and faster times. All in all I want to be better each week.

How has doing CrossFit and X4 helped you in your everyday life?

Both have helped me out tremendously. Something as simple as taking my dog for a 3 mile run to going out Saturday morning after my X4 class and hiking anywhere from 7-8 miles playing Disc Golf. My job also has gotten easier as I have gotten more fit. It is high paced and high production and I am able to do it consistently at a high level.

How have the people at Junction Fitness helped motivate/encourage you?

The people at JF are so welcoming and encouraging. I'm not the most socially outgoing person and tend to stay to myself but the people there go out of their way to see how you are doing or are eager to see what you thought of the workout that day. 

Why do you think it is important to share your story with others in the Junction 

Fitness community?

So they can see how much of a positive impact they have had on my life and others' lives since joining. At JF, the community as a whole wants to see everyone succeed in all aspects of their lives. This is a great way to show them that.
