Member Spotlight: Rebekah Miller

If you have been around Junction Fitness (or formerly CrossFit DSP) you know Rebekah. Her and her husband Malcolm have been long time supporters of our gym and Rebekah being April's Member Spotlight shouldn't be much of a surprise. Whether she is committing her time to being a scientist, reading TONS of books, or hitting a CrossFit or X4 workout, she gives it 100% of her effort. She has been consistent for a very long time, and recently when she became pregnant with her first child, she continued to make her health and fitness a priority. Our staff wanted to recognize her this month for all of her hard work and consistency. We can't wait to see what the future holds for you, Rebekah! Let's continue to crush 2022. If you see Rebekah in the gym, give her a fist bump for being this month's Member Spotlight!

NAME: Rebekah Miller

Membership Type: CrossFit & X4

When and why did you join Junction Fitness?

I joined JF back in January of 2018.. my husband (boyfriend at the time) and I had become pretty sedentary and we were like okay, we have to do something drastic. And the first thing that came to mind was CrossFit! He played collegiate football so he was familiar with what it takes to be “fit” however I had no experience with anything besides powerlifting so it was a nice middle ground for the two of us.

What is your favorite thing about Junction Fitness?

My favorite thing about JF is the community. My biological family is over two hours away from Temple, and I’ve been able to build a group of people that I can count on to push me in the gym, and count on outside of the gym should I need anything.

What does fitness mean to you?

Fitness to me means being physically capable of doing daily tasks. No matter what phase of life you are in, whether you are a new Mom and it means being able to lift your 20 pound toddler or you’re older and just trying to walk without assistance.

With being a mommy to be, why is it important to continue to workout?

I think it’s important to continue to workout because it’s good to show my son that his Dad isn’t the only athlete in the family. Haha. Seriously though, it’s important to keep working out to be as physically fit as possible for labor.

Oftentimes women are scared to continue working out while pregnant. What would be your message to them on why it is important to continue to stay active?

It’s important to stay active during labor because childbirth will probably be the most intense WOD you ever do. It takes endurance, it takes mental strength, and tests your pain tolerance. The Junction Fitness trainers always help me change the workouts so they keep me safe and moving, so that is super helpful!

You’ve been doing CrossFit for a long time so, how has adding X4 to your routine helped you progress?

X4 was definitely a kick in the butt when I first started but my weakness has always been with high volume cardio so although X4 may be giving you smaller spurts of intense cardio, it’s helped translate over to CrossFit in the longer chippers or WODs that incorporate burpees and similar movements.

What are some goals that you have achieved while being at Junction Fitness?

While being at JF I completed a 150 burpee WOD, and a WOD that had a 2.5 mile run. As somebody that loathes cardio, yes but max lifts may be impressive, but I’m most proud of those two accomplishments because it proves although I may not have been the fastest or best at them, I showed up and did them.

Who would you encourage to try Junction Fitness?

EVERYBODY! JF has really changed my life in all facets. I gained confidence in my physical abilities, I’ve made lifelong friendships, and I’ve gained immense mental fortitude.

Why do you think it is important to share your story with others in the Junction

Fitness community?

I think it’s important to share my story because I’m just a regular person. Sometimes we only see stories about the gym or CrossFit of these really strong people, or people doing these crazy physical feats. Although I may not have stories like theirs.. I’m what steady consistency looks like.

What makes Junction Fitness different from the other gyms in the area that you enjoy?

The coaches and environment. You can show up to JF and not know anybody but you’ll leave with at least one new friend.

What are your goals for 2022?

To give birth haha, and as far as in the long term.. gradually recreate a healthy lifestyle that will benefit not only me, but also our family dynamic.
